Privacy Policy
The short version: we collect the minimum needed to show you your bin schedule and send you reminders. We don't track you, we don't sell data, and we don't show ads.
This policy explains what data Bin Night collects, why, and how it's handled.
What we collect
Postcode & address
When you set up the app, you enter your postcode and select your address. We use this to identify your local council and look up your bin collection schedule. Your postcode and address are sent to our server and to trusted third-party services to retrieve your schedule.
Push notification token
If you enable notifications, your device provides a push token so we can send you bin night reminders. This token is generated by Apple and is not linked to your identity. We store it on our server solely to deliver notifications.
Anonymous analytics
We use a privacy-first analytics service to understand how people use the app — for example, whether users complete the setup process or where they get stuck. This service does not collect personal data, IP addresses, or device identifiers. All signals are anonymous and cannot be traced back to individual users.
Local storage
Your bin schedule, reminder preferences, and bin colour choices are stored locally on your device. This data never leaves your device.
What we don't collect
- No account or login — you never give us your name, email, or password
- No location tracking — we use your postcode, not GPS
- No advertising identifiers — we don't use IDFA or any ad tracking
- No third-party advertising — there are no ads in Bin Night
- No data selling — your information is never sold or shared with advertisers
How we store your data
- On our server: Your postcode, address, council name, and push token are stored on our server to deliver your schedule and send reminders. This data is retained while you use the app.
- On your device: Your schedule, preferences, and settings are stored locally.
- Analytics: Anonymous usage signals are processed by a third-party analytics provider. We have no way to identify individual users from this data.
Third-party services
We use a small number of third-party services to operate the app, including address lookup, schedule retrieval, server hosting, and anonymous analytics. These services only receive the minimum data necessary to perform their function. We do not share your data with any advertising or marketing services.
Data deletion
If you change your address in the app, your previous data is cleared. To request full deletion of any server-side data, get in touch via our support page and we'll remove it within 30 days.
Children's privacy
Bin Night is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above.
